TV Channel based in the UK sends aid during India’s Covid Crisis.

The Indian government has commended a TV Channel in the UK for their aid provided during the covid 19 crisis in India, where oxygen concentrators were provided to people’s homes to survive until they could be vaccinated.

The coronavirus crisis in India has shocked the world. From overcrowded hospitals to stealing the organs of the deceased and a complete lack of leadership. As a result, not only that, but even necessities such as hospital beds and oxygen tanks have become scarce. Many citizens are forced to purchase oxygen tanks off the black market at bogus prices.

If that didn’t make it any worse, then the annual Khumb Mela, a religious festival that usually attracts millions of people from across the world, was still allowed to occur, which has now been named as the “superspreader” by health officials. All whilst this was happening; PM Narendra Modi was in west Bengal fighting elections.

Worldwide support followed Indians requests from charities and countries sending oxygen tanks and aid support. Many people contributed in the name of humanity to try and help India.

However, a more surprising candidate was Akaal Channel, a UK based TV channel run by Amrik Singh Kooner since 2013. Once the situation became dire in India, Akaal channel began appeal shows on the channel, urging viewers to donate money so that they could purchase oxygen concentrators that people could keep at home.

This started on a very small scale but has become a massive project with many business people coming forward to aid them in their work.

Managing Director Amrik Singh Kooner said,

At the end of the day, selfless service is a tenant in Sikhism. Even if the government calls us terrorists or separatists, our forefathers would have never backed down from a challenge like covid 19, so neither will we.

Akaal Channel and their charity organisation Akaal Aid were awarded a certificate labelling them as covid warriors.
